2024 Total Solar Eclipse in Ohio

On Monday, April 8, 2024, Lake County, Ohio, will be going dark…in a good way! A Total Solar Eclipse is coming to North America, and Lake County is in the direct path of totality for this extremely rare event that you won’t want to miss. Beginning around 3:14 PM, the sun will be completely blocked by the moon, which will lead to four minutes of darkness and an amazing 360-degree “sunset.”

When a total solar eclipse happened in the United States in 2017, cities from Oregon to South Carolina welcomed tens of thousands of visitors to their communities for this remarkable celestial event. With Lake County being in the center of the path of totality, we expect visitors from far and wide to come to the area to experience this phenomenon.

In preparation for this once-in-a-lifetime event in northeast Ohio, the Lake County Visitors Bureau is putting together details on an Eclipse Events Grant Program to support members and communities who plan events between Friday, April 5, 2024, and Monday, April 8, 2024. We are encouraging visitors to come to Lake County early to spend the weekend with us, where they can experience our great lake, wineries, attractions, restaurants, and local retailers in advance of the Total Eclipse on Monday. More details on the grant program to follow soon.

The Path of Totality

Locations near the center of the path will experience a longer duration for the total eclipse, with the duration becoming shorter the further away you are located, and lastly areas outside the boundary lines will not experience a total eclipse and only have a partial eclipse. Use the table to find out which areas and times the eclipse will happen!

To determine the precise start time, end time, and duration of totality for your exact location on eclipse day, use the interactive Google eclipse maps developed by Xavier Jubier.
