Painesville Pier

Painesville Township Park’s 200 ft, ADA accessible pier provides spectacular views of Lake Erie. The pier is popular for fishing, especially for those that do not have a boat. Steelhead and walleye are accessible from the pier, and the reef is about 30 feet out, which is within casting distance. Non-fishers also flock to the location to catch our remarkable sunsets and enjoy the summer breeze!

Veterans Park

Veterans Park protects the largest inland pond in the county and a remnant of original Ohio swamp forest. The park offers four accessible fishing piers, a 1.78-mile loop trail through native wetlands with 830 feet of boardwalk and a wetland/wildlife viewing area. Granger Pond is generally stocked with catfish, bass, bluegill and rainbow trout. Anglers are each welcome to keep a maximum of five trout per day, with no size limit.

A valid Ohio fishing license is required to fish at Veterans Park.

Steelhead Alley

Once you fish Steelhead Alley you will never forget your experience! The strains of steelhead trout stocked in Northeast Ohio’s Steelhead Alley streams originated in California, but first adapted to and reproduced in Lake Michigan and its tributaries for over a century. In the mid-1990s, Ohio began stocking a strain from the Little Manistee River in Michigan. These fish migrate into the freshwaters of Lake Erie, and similar to those that migrate into the saltwater of the Pacific Ocean, they grow rapidly. Smolt are stocked freshly each year in the Grand and Chagrin Rivers and average between 23-inches, 4 to 5lbs - 28 inches, 8-10lbs. The prime months to fish for steelhead are late October, November and December in the fall and winter and March and April in the spring. The Northeast Ohio tributaries fish well in both spring and fall. Rumour has it that you have to fish here to call yourself a complete fisherman.
